April 17 JXN Community Forum:
"The Loving Story"
Documents Landmark Supreme Court Case
Jackson, MI-- The JXN Community Forum will be showing "The Loving Story," a movie on "love in the time of Jim Crow" (Christian Science Monitor). This Oscar shortlist and Emmy-winning documentary recounts the case of Richard and Mildred Loving v. Virginia - the landmark 1967 Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage. The video starts at 6:30pm on Thursday April 17 at the Jackson District Library in downtown Jackson.
The Loving Story depicts love and the struggle for dignity, set against a backdrop of historic anti-miscegenation sentiments in the U.S. The Lovings, an interracial couple, fell in love and married at a critical time in American history. Because of a confluence of social and political turmoil, our reluctant heroes brought about change where no one else had succeeded.
